Sugita shocks Thiem in Halle Open

Patna : World No 52 in ATP rankings Yuichi Sugita, 29, Japan, shocked World No 7 and thied seed Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, 6-2, 7-5, in the Round of 16 on June 20, 2018, to enter the quart-finals of Halle Open also called Gerry Weber Open, Germany, a Grass Court event.

Thiem fired 7 Aces in the match compared to 6 by Sugita. But, Thiem committed 4 double faults compared to 2 by Sugita. Sugita won three break points compared to none by Thiem, who had reached the final of French Open 2018 where he lost to Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain.

On June 19, World No 34 Borna Coric, 21, Croatia, had stunned World No 3 and second seed Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, in the first round of the tournament. World No 1 and top seed Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, will play his Round of 16 match on June 21.
