Patna : The Group D match between two time FIFA World Cup champion and thrice runners up Argentina and Iceland ended in a 1-1 draw at Spartak Stadium, Russia, on June 16, 2018, evening. For Argentina, Sergio Aguero, 30, scored the goal in the 19th minute, his first goal in the World Cup, while for Iceland, who are appearing at the World Cup for the first time,  Alfreo Finnbogason, 29, scored the equaliser in the 23rd minute. Both the sides scored in the first half of the match.

Argentina have failed to win their opening match in the World Cup for the first time since 1990. Argentina’s superstar forward Lionel Messi failed to convert a penalty in the 64th minute disappointing his fans. Argentina are making their 17th appearance in the World Cup.
