India 347/6 against Afghanistan on day 1, Dhwan & Murali hit tons

Patna :  India were 347/6 in 78 overs at stumps on day one in the one off test against Afghanistan, who have ben awarded test status by the ICC and playing their first test, with both the openers : Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay, scoring centuries. Dhawan, in fact, became the first Indian cricketer to score a century before lunch in 87 ball. Dhawan fell to medium fast bowler Yamin Ahmadzai, 25, for 107 in 96 ball, his 6th test century, while Murali Vijay fell to pacer Wafadar for 105 in 153 ball, his 12th century.

Dhawan and Murali were involved in a 168 run stand for the first wicket. Dhawan hit 19 fours and 3 sixes in his 107 while Murali hit 15 fours and a six. Lokesh Rahul scored 54 in 64 ball hitting 8 fours while Cheteshwar Pujara made 35 in 52 ball hitting 6 fours. Captain Ajinkya Rahane fell to leg spinner Rashid Khan after scoring 10 runs. Wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik was run out for 4 when the score was 334.

While India dominated the first two sessions of the play, Afghanistan bowlers particularly spinners  Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman dominated the final session givving little scope to the Indian batsmen to score runs. At stumps, allrounder Hardik Pandya was batting on 10 while spinner Ravichandran Ashwin was batting on 7.

For Afghanistan, Ahmadzai took two wickets while Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Wafadar took one wicket each.
