Woman burnt to death at in-laws’ place in Bhojpur for bike, gold chain

Ara : A married woman Shanti Devi was burnt to death at village Bandhwa under Tarari police station in Bhojpur district on June 14, 2018, for a gold chain and a motorcycle. Her in-laws tried to disposed off the body to erase evidence but olice seized the half burnt body and brought it to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem.

A named FIR has been lodged with Tarari police station against seven persons including the husband of the deceased. Police arrested her father-in-law Ram Iqbal Singh and sent him to jail.

SHO, Tarari police station said, that Shanti Devi, daughter of Kameshwar Singh of village Ramnagar Sakari under Dawath police station in Rohtas district, was married to Shyam Bahadur Singh, son of Ram Iqbal Singh of village Bandhwa under Tarari police station, in April 2016 and was ever since allegedly being tortured physically and mentally by her in-laws for a motorcycle and a gold chain and when their demands were not fulfilled, they sprinkled kerosene oil on her and burnt her alive.
