Denis Istomin upsets 5th seed Kohlschreiber in Stuttgart Open

Patna : World No 100 in ATP rankings Denis Istomin, 31, Uzbeksitan, shocked World No 23rd Philipp Kohlschreiber, 34, Germany, the fifth seed, in the first round of Stuttgart Open also known as Mercedes Cup, Germany, an ATP 250 event played on Grass Court. Istomin beat Kohlschreiber 7-6, 7-6.

World No 2 Roger Federer, 36, Switzerland, is the top seed in the tournament. The Champion will take home a Mercedes- Benz. If Federer reaches the final, he will regain the World No 1 rank in the ATP rankings to be released on June 18. World No 1 Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, is not playing the tournament.  Federer had lost in the first round of Mercedes Cup in 2017.

World No 46 Marton Fucsovics, 26, Hungary, beat World No 112 Denis Kudla, 25, USA, 6-3, 6-4, in the first round. Marton had reached 4th round of Australian Open 2018 and lost in the 2nd round of French Open 2018. World No 55 Gilles Simon, 33, France, beat World No 281 Matteo Viola, 30, Italy, 6-0, 6-3, in the first round.

World No 169 Prajnesh Gunneswaran, 28, India, who is playing his ATP tournament, is scheduled to play World No 23 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, on June 12, 2018, night. Federer will play his first match on June 13.
