Patna : World No 3 in ATP rankings Alexander Zverev, 21, defeated World No 38 Karen Kachanov, 22, Russia, in a five-set marathon lasting three and ahalf hour in the Round of 16 on June 3, 2018, to enter the Quarter-finals of French Open 2018. Zverev, the second seed, defeated Kachanov 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, in a fiercely contested match between the two players on Suzanne Leglen court, Roland Garros, Paris. It is first Grand Slam QF for Zverev. Nishikori now leads Thiem 2-1 head to head.

Zverev fired 17 Aces in the match compared to 9 by Kachanov. Both the players committed 4 double faults each in the match. Both the players also won 5 break points each. Kachanov won 5 games in a row during the match while Zverev won 3. Zverev had also taken five sets to defeat Damir Dzumhur, Bosnia, in the Round of 32.

World No 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, defeated World No 21 Kei Nishokori, 28, Japan, in four sets in the Round of 16 to enter the Quarter-finals of French Open. Thiem defeated Nishikori 6-2, 6-0, 5-7,  6-4 on Philippe Chatrier Court, Roland Garros, Paris. Thiem served 9 Aces during the match compared just 1 by Nishikori. But, Thiem also committed 7 double faults compared to just 1 by Nishikori. Thiem, however, won 6 break points while Nishikori won just 1.
