Patna : England had scored 235/6 in 78 overs against Pakistan in the first test at Lord’s, Londay, at stumps on day three still staring defeat though they have avoided an innings defeat riding on an unbroken partnership of 125 runs for the 7th wicket between Jos Buttler and off spinner Dominic Bess, 20.

England were leading by 56 runs with two days still left to the test match. Buttler was unbeaten on 66 in 130 ball while Bess was unbeaten on 55 in 101 ball. It was a dogged display of batting by the two Englang batsmen. For Pakistan, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Abbas, and Sadab Khan took two wicket each.

Trailing on by 179 runs on the first innings, England lost veteran opener Alastair Cook when the score was just one in the second innings. Cook was out lbw to fast bowler Mohammad Abbas after scoring 1. His opening partner Mark Stoneman fell to spinner Sadab Khan for 9 when the score was 31. Captain Joe Root made 68 while Ben Stokes was out for 9. Dawid Malan made 12 while Jonny Bairstow, wicketkeeper, was bowled by fast bowler Mohammad Amit for duck. The 6th England wicket that of Joe Root fell to Mohammad Abbas when the score was 110.

Earlier, Pakistan Pakistan scored 363 in their first innings with opener Azhar Ali scoring 50 while Asad Shafiq made 59. Babar Azar retired hurt after scoring 68 while spinner Shadab Khan made 52. Captain Sarfaraz Ahmad was out for 9 and Haris Sohail made 39. Faheem Ashraf also made 37.

For England, James Anderson took 3/82 while Mark Wood took 2/74. Allrounder Ben Stokes took 3/75 while Stuard Broad took 1/61.
