Ara : A criminal has demanded an extortion amount ( Rangdari) of Rs. 50 lakh from Dr Abhishek Kumar, son of an ophthalmologist Dr S K Kedia. They have threatened with dire consequence if the amount was not paid to him within three months.
Dr S K Kedia said that someone sent a letter two days back from a post office at Patna to his son Dr Abhishek Kumar, also an ophthalmologist, demanding Rs 50 lakh as rangdari. Acomplaint has been lodged with Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar in this regard, said Dr Kedia.
Bhojpur SP Awakash Kumar said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed and sent to Patna to investigate the matter. He said that the address of the post office from where the letter was posted has been located and the miscreant will be arrested very soon. The SP said that he was himself supervising the investigation.
Meanwhile, Secretary, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Ara branch, Dr Madhukar Prakash, said that the IMA would resort to agitation if the miscreant is not arrested at the earliest.
