Sharapova enters QF of Italian Open

Patna : World No 40 Maria Yuryevna Sharapova, 31, Russia, will play World No 6 Jelena Ostapenko, 20, in the quarterfinals of Italian Open, a clay court tournament, at Foro Italico, Rome, on May 18, 2018. Winner of 5 Grand Slam singles titles and a former World N0 1, Sharapova beat World No 24 Daria Gavrilova, 24, Australia, 6-3, 6-4, in the third round on May 17 to enter the quarterfinals. Sharapova is a two time French Open champion.

World No 1 Simona Halep, 26, Romania, will play World No 7 Caroline Garcia, 24, France, in the quarterfinals on May 18 while World No 2 Caroline Wozniacki, 27, Denmark, will meet Anett Kontaveit, 22, Estonia,  in the other quarterfinals the same day. World No 4 Elina Svitolina, 23, Ukraine, will play Angelique Kerber, 30, Germany.
