Patna : World Number 22 Kyle Edmund, 23, UK, who had stunned former World Number 1 and winner of 12 Grand Slam singles title Novak Djokovic in the second round on May 9, defeated World Number 10 and 8th seed David Goffin, 27, Belgium, in straight sets in third round 6-3, 6-3, on May 10, 2018, at La Caga Magica, Madrid, Spain, to enter the quater-finals of ATP Madrid Open Masters 1000.

World Number 3 Alexander Zverev, 21, Germany, the 3rd seed, defeated World Number 90 Evgeny Donskoy, 27, Russia, 6-2, 7-5, in the second round on May 10. World Number 7 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria, the 5th seed, also entered the third round defeating World Number 78 Federico Delbonis, 27, Argentina, 4-6, 6-3, 7-5, in the second round on May 10, 2018.
