Patna : Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 6 wickets in the 34th match of IPL this season at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, MP, on May 4, 2018, night, riding on an unbeaten 12 ball 31 with 4 fours and 2 sixes by allrounder Krunal Pandya and and 24 not out in 15 balls with 1 four and 2 sixes by captain Rohit Sharma. MI scored 176/4 in 19 overs. Earlier, batting first KXIP had scored 174/6 in 20 overs.
It was MI’s third win in 9 matches in IPL 2018. MI have now 6 points. They now need to win all their remaining 5 matches to qualify for the knock out stage.
MI had won the toss but opted to ball. KXIP scored 174/6 riding on 50 in 40 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes by opener Chris Gayle and an unbeaten 29 in 15 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes by Marcus Stoinis, Australia. Opener Lokesh Rahul scored 24 hitting 1 four and 2 sixes. Karun Nair made 23 in 12 balls hitting 1 four and 2 sixes.
For MI, opener Suryakumar Yadav made an explosive 57 in 42 balls hitting 6 fours and 3 sixes while his opening partner Evin Lewix was out for 10 in 13 balls. Wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan made 25 in 19 balls hitting 3 sixes while allrounder Hardik Pandya made 23 in 13 balls hitting 2 fours and a six.
For KXIP, young Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman took 2/37 in 4 overs while pacer Andrew Tye, Australia, took 1/35 in 4 overs. Marcus Stoinis took 1/37 in 3 overs. Suryakumar Yadav was declared Player of the Match.
