Six arrested in Bagaha for demanding dowry

Bagaha: Police on May 1, 2018, arrested six persons for allegedly demanding dowry from the father of Baby Kumari Verma of village Chhitauni Adarshnagar under Hanumanganj police station in Kushinagar district, UP, from Madanpur Deviasthan under Naurangia police station in Bagaha police district where her marriage was to be solemnised with Pintu Kumar Soni.

Police sources said that Pintu Kumar Soni’s family members including his father Lallan Soni allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 as dowry from Baby Kumari Verma’s father Lakshman Soni and his family members at the marriage venue.

When the girl’s family members failed to meet their demand, Pintu’s  father Lallan Soni and his relatives started assaulting them. As soon as Naurangia police station received information about it, police swung into action and arrested  six persons: Pintu Kumar Soni (groom), his father Lallan Soni, Babloo Kumar Soni, Mantu Kumar Soni and Annu Kumar Soni, groom’s brothers, of Kailashnagar locality under Nagar Parishad, Bagaha, and Pradeep Soni, their relative of village Bhusarari under Shathi police station in West Champaran district.

Baby Kumari Verma’s father Lakshman Soni lodged a case with Naurangia police station in this connection. SP, Bagaha, A K Gupta, while confirming the arrest of 6 persons for demanding dowry, said that they were sent to jail on May 2, 2018.
