Police seize huge quantity of liquor from Bhojpur village, 40 held

Ara : Prohibition enforced in the state since April 5, 2o16, notwithstanding, the liquor dealers and smugglers are still quite active in different parts of Bhojpur district. Police have so far failed to check smugglingof liquor into the district though they frequently conduct raids and seize liquor. The liquor mafias are still brewing liquor at remote villages in the district.

Police on April 20, 2018, conducted raid at village Sarangpur under Ara Muffassil police station in Bhojpur district and seized countrymade liquor in huge quantity and arrested over 40 persons including few women. Police swung into action after a video showing some people boozing at a marriage party at village Sarangpur went viral on social media on April 19, 2018, late evening. The search operation at the village is still on.

SHO, Ara Muffassil police station, said that as soon as he came to know about liquor consumption at the marriage ceremony, he along with about 100 police personnel conducted raids at Sarangpur village on April 20 and seized countymade liquor in large quantity. He said that the police arrested about 40 persons including few women in this connection and also destroyed some liquor brewing factories.

Resentment prevails among the villagers against police action. They alleged that police arrested innocent men and women who had come to attend the marriage ceremony.
