Patna : Bihar Government on April 19, 2018, hiked the monthly honorarium being paid to the ex-servicemen appointed on contract basis as warders in different jails from Rs 12,000 to Rs 17,250.

The Prisons & Correctional Services Directorate of the State Home Department isued a notification to this effect on April 19, 2018. The Finance Department and State Cabinet had earlier approved the proposal. This will put an annual financial burden of Rs 3.15 crore on the government.

The Home (Police) Department had on January 13, 2017, increased monthly salary of SAP Jawans from Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,250.

Five hundred ex-servicemen are working on contract basis as warders in different jails. On June 10, 2014, their honorarium was increased from Rs 9,000 to Rs 12,000. In view of the price rise and inflation, it was being felt that the honorarium of ex-servicemen-cum-warders should also be hiked.
