Patna : India defeated three time defending champion Malaysia 3-1 in the final to clinch gold medal in the mixed team category at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018. It was India’s first gold in mixed team event.

World Number 3 in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Rankings Kidambi Srikanth upset World Number 2 and three time olympic silver medallit Lee Chong Wei in straight games 21-17, 21-14. World Number 10 in BWF rankings for women Saina Nehwal, who featured in all the matches India played at the event, defeated World Number 29 Soniia Cheah in a three-set thriller 21-11, 19-21, 21-9.

Satwik Rankireddy and Ashwini Ponnappa beat Peng Soon Chan and Liu Yong Gohwon in the mixed doubles match in three sets 21-14, 15-21, 21-15. But, Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty lost to Goh and Wee Kiong Tan 15-21, 20-22 in men’s doubles match.

India had defeated Singapore 3-1 in the semi-final on April 8, 2018. India had lost 2-3 to Singapore in bronze medal play off at Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
