Patna : Sixteen year old shooting prodigy Manu Bhaker won gold medal for India in the women’s 10m Air Pistol event at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 on April 8, 2018. She shot 240.9 to break the Commonwealth Games record. Manu has now become India’s youngest medallist at the Commonwalth Games.

Hina Sidhu, 28, India, won silver medal at the same event aggregating 234. Sidhu had also won silver medal at 2010 CWG in Delhi. Sidhu hails from Ludhia, Punjab. Sidhu holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree and her father was also a sports shooter.

Born at village Goria near Jhajjar in Charkhi Dadri istrict in Haryana, Manu Bhaker, took up shooting only two years back. Her father Ram Kishan Bhaker is a Chief Engineer in Merchant Navy.

She had also won gold medal in 10 m Air Pistol at International Shooting Spots Federation (ISSF) World Cup at Guadalajara, Mexico, in early March, 2018. She had to struggle for two months to get a licence for a pistol. She is trained by shooting legend Jaspal Rana, a gold medallits at 1998 CWG.
