Patna : Australia were 213/9 at stumps on day 3 in their second innings against South Africa in the first test at Kingsmead, Durban, South Africa, on March 3, 2018, taking a 402 run lead over their rival. Pat Cummins was unbeaten on 17 while Josh Hazlewood was batting on 4 at stumps on day three.

Australian opener Cameron Bancroft was the top scorer for his team making 53 in 83 balls hitting 10 fours while his partner David Warner made 28 in 35 balls including 4 fours. Captain Steven Smith made 38 in 81 balls hitting  three fours while Shaun Marsh made 33 in 99 balls hitting 5 fours. Usman Khwaja was out for 6 while wicketkeeper Tim Paine made 14. Bancroft and Warner were involved in a 56 run partnership for the first wicket.

For South Africa, fast bowler Morne Morkel took 3/42 while his fellow fast bowler Kagiso Rabada took 2/28. Spinner Keshav Maharaj, who had taken five wickets in Australia’s first innings, took 3/93 in the second innings. Dean Elgar took 1/10 in three overs.

South Africa  had made 162 in their first innings with A B de Villiers scorin an unbeaten 71.
