Bagaha : The hurdle in the construction of NH 28-B between Bagaha in West Champaran and Paniyahawa under Kushinagar district in UP via Valmikinagar Tiger Reserve (VTR),which connects Bagaha-Chhitauni Gandak rail cum road bridge, has now been cleared with certain conditions.
Union Forest, Environment and Climate Change Ministry’s Standing Committee (Wildlife), at its 46th meeting, cleared the project which will go through Madanpur Forest in Valmiki Tiger Reserve, according to sources.The project will involve the diversion of 13.27 hectare of forest land from VTR for construction of NH 28-B which will improve  the existing transport system in  the region. This was communicated to the Principal Secretary, state Environment and Forest Department on January 4, 2018.
Bharat Joti, Additional Chief Conservator of Forest cum Chief Wildlife Warden, Patna, intimated this to Executive Engineer, National Highway Division, Motihari, on January 25, 2018, asking him to go ahead with the project.
The NH 28(b) Bagaha-Chhitauni Gandak road bridge had been completed and inaugurated by the then Railways Minister Nitish Kumar on June 6, 2002. An   agitation for construction of NH28-B through VTR was launched by Bagaha-Paniyahawa NH 28-B construction action committee,Tharu Welfare Federation, and many public representatives and poltical parties.
