Human chain formation in Nawada lacked spontaneity

Nawada: Even as about 3.5 lakh people including school children and teachers formed a human chain in Nawada district on January 21, 2018, to express their disapproval of the social evils : child-marriage and dowry, the spontaneity of the general public as evident in 2016 human chain formation favouring prohibition, was absent. Women participants, in particular, did not display the enthusiasm they had displayed while endorsing prohibition in 2016.
Although the Nawada DM, SP and their spouses besides government officials had left no stone unturned to make the event a success by holding meetings, organising “mashal-juloos”, nukkad nataks etc, the lure of lucre via dowry appeared to have ruled the head and heart of the masses. At various places the human chain appeared broken.
While both RJD and Congress parties boycotted the human chain, Union minister and Nawada BJP MP Giriraj Singh, the Minister-in-charge of Nawada district and Rural Development Department Minister Shravan Kumar,  MLAs Anil Singh, Auna Devi, MLC Salman Raquib Munna, former MLAs Kaushal Yadav, Pradip Mahto, DM Kaushal Kumar and SP Vikash Burman participated in the human chain formation. Many social
organisations distributed  bottled mineral water among the participants.
