Ara : With the district reeling under severe spell of cold, Bhojpur DM Sanjeev Kumar on January 4, 2018, for suspension of teaching activities in all government and private schools  up to class VIII till further order in the district.

But, the poor are left to fend for themselves as the chilly wind continue to lash the district for the last one week. However, the Sun shines in the afternoon for about two hours on January 4 gave some respite from the cold. To escape the cold, several slum dwellers are allegedly consuming countrymade liquor easily available despite prohibition and strict vigil by the law enforcing agency thus playing with their lives. The cold has also affected the standing crops while the people are forced to stay indoors.

DM Sanjeev Kumar has ordered the officials to arrange bonfire at Shivganj, Gopali Chowk, Sheesh Mahal Chowk, Subhash Chowk, Railway campus and Gandhi Kushth Aashram and almost all the nook and corner of Bhojpur district but it was not visible at any place.

Cardiologists including Ashok Kumar Pandey, B K Shukla, T P Singh and R Ojha have urged the people to save themselves from cold as in winter the incidents of heart attacks, strokes and health issues associated with high blood pressure increase. The doctors say low temperature leads to narrowing of blood vessels posing risk to the diabetics, heart, kidney and high blood pressure patients hence such patients need to undergo routine check-ups, regular monitoring of blood pressure and avoid sudden exposure to cold.
