India beat Sri Lamka by 5 wickets in 3rd T20 Intl at Mumbai

Patna : India defeated Sri Lanka by five wickets in the third T20 International at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on December 24, 2017, wrapping the three-match T20 International series 3-0.

Sri Lanka made 135/7 in 20 overs with A Gunaratne scoring 36 in 37 balls hitting 3 fours and D Shanaka an unbeaten 29 in 24 balls hitting 2 sixes. Sri Lanka Captain T Perera made 11. Opener Upul Tharanga was also out for 11  whie spinner Akila Dhananjay remained not out on 11.

For India, Hardik Pandya took 2/25 in 4 overs while Jaidev Unadkat took 2/15, also in 4 overs. Spinners Kuldip Yadav took 1/26 and Washington Sundar 1/22 respectively. Fast bowler M Siraj took 1/45 in  overs.

Needing 136 runs to win, India made 139/7 in 19.2 overs. Dinesh Kartik remained not out on 18 in 12 balls hitting a six while M S Dhoni was unbeaten on 16 in ten deliveries hitting 2 fours. India needed three runs to win in the 20th over.

Replying to Sri Lanka’s small total of 135/7, India made a heavy weather of the chase and had made 116/5 at the end of 17th over with T Perera, D Chameera and D Shanaka bowling excellent and incisive spells. All the top India batsmen including Captain Rohit Sharma got the start but failed to score big.

Rohit Sharma made 27 in 20 balls hitting 4 fours and six while Shreyas Iyer made 30 in 32 balls hitting a four and a six. Iyer was run out. Manish Pandey made 32 in 29 balls hitting 4 fours. Lokesh Rahul, who opened the innings with Rohit Sharma, made 4 in nine balls.  Hardik Pandya was also out for four. For Sri Lanka, D Chameera took 2/22 and D Shanaka 2/27.
