Police seize 272 cartons of foreign liquor in Saharsa

Saharsa :Police on August 26, 2017, late night seized 272 cartons of foreign liquor and a ten wheeler truck carrying the consigment from village Dighia under Sadar police station, Saharsa. The liquor was brought over from Haryana.

Police also arrested the truck driver Yogendra Singh besides seizing Kurkure packets worth Rs 10 lakh from the truck and also took under custody trader Om Prakash Chaudhary of Sabji Bazaar, who had placed order for it, along with three youth. Police also seized a rifle from the house of a liquor smuggler at village Dighia though the smuggler managed to escape. Police also arrested an auto driver found near the truck with his three-wheeler at Dighia probably to carry the unloaded liquor cartons from there.

SHO, Sadar police station, Bhai Bharat, said that he had received information that foreign liquor was being unloaded from a truck at village Dighia by liquor smugglers. The SHO said that he immediately left for Dighia with force. But, the smugglers escaped from the place seeing police. The SHO said that the arrested truck driver hails from village Pillara in Rohtak district in Haryana. Truck driver Yogendra, during his interrogation by police, said that Kataria Transport, Rajasthan, had loaded all the goods on the truck.
