Bettiah : West Champaran police, on a tip off, seized two tankers carrying 32,632 litres of raw sprit at R K petrol pump near village Pipara under Mufassil police station, Bettiah, on August 23, 2017, night, and arrested seven persons in this connection.
The arrested persons were identified as Kundan Bind, Motilal Prasad, Binda Bind, Harendra Prasad and Doma Bind of village Gidhaura in Muzaffarpur district and Chhotelal Sao and Pradip Kumar of Belawa Makari under Jagadishpur police station in West Champaran district. Police team comprised SHO, Bettiah Mufassil police station, R K Upadhyay, SHO, Sikta police station, Bimlendu Kumar Singh and other police officials.
Police said that the tankers were coming from Lauria distillery in West Champaran district and according to the papers found in the two seized tankers only 25,000 litres of raw sprit was loaded on them. But the two tankers were actually carrying 32,632 litres of spirit. The two tankers had to go Bihta in Patna district, through Areraj road in East Champaran district but the tankers were found on Bettiah-Motihari road unloading the sprit at R.K petrol pump with the help of arrested persons for preparing liquor.
According West Champaran SP Vinay Kumar, police investigation was on and it is expected that a big spirit racket will come to surface.
