Bokaro ( Jharkhand ) : Incessant rains for the last 48 hours resulting in rise of water level of Tenughat Dam and Garga Dam besides in dozens of collieries, Dhanbad and Bokaro district administration in Jharkhand have sounded alert in their districts while NDRF cadets have been asked to remain on alert mode to tackle emergency situations.
Taking no chance, Dhanbad Deputy Commissioner A Dodde on July 25 declared closure of all government and private schools for next two days that is on July 26 and July 27. In view of big rise in water level in Tenughat Dam which despite releasing 26,000 cusec of water in last 24 hours has witnessed rise of five feet and has now started releasing 70,000 cusec of water per second which is equal to 19.86 lakhs litres of water per second.
Due to sudden release of water from the dam, low lying areas of Bokaro, Dhanbad and even Burdwan district have got inundated for which warning signals were given 2 days back asking residents to shift to safer places.
Talking to the mediapersons, both Dhanbad DC and Bokaro DC R M Ray said that team of high officials were keeping a close watch on situation while several teams of officials from water resources department along with district officials are patrolling the low lying areas. Heavy rains is likely to lash the two districts in next 24 hours.
