Sitamarhi: Sitamarhi district administration on July 24, 2017, morning, took action against roadside open defecators. Several block level teams conducted raids at many Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages very early in the morning on July 24 and detained 70 open defecators under IPC 133 and 188. Sitamarhi DM Rajiv Raushan himself led one such team. Sitamarhi town in North Bihar is 129 km away from state capital Patna.
Nineteen villagers were detained while defecating in the open bya team headed by Belsand civil SDO Sudhir Kumar and were slapped a fine of Rs 500 each. The SDO also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on
Parshurampur Panchayat under Parsauni block in the district. It may be mentioned here
that Belsand sub division is open defecation fee.
The other detained villagers were released from the respective police stations on furnishing personal bonds. DM Rajiv Raushan said that 90% villages in the district have become ODF. In the remaining villages, construction of toilets is going on war footing under Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan, the DM said. Soon the district will become ODF, DM Raushan added. The villagers are getting technical support in toilets construction from UNICEF officials.
