Bagaha: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on April 27, 2017, visited village Murali Bharahawa in Murali panchayat under Gaunaha block in West Champaran, which Mahatma Gandhi had visited one hundred years ago to see the plights of champaran peasants caused by Indigo planters on the request of Rajkumar Shukla of village Satawaria and Sant Raut of village Amolawa.
The CM announced that statues of Rajkumar Shukta and Sant Raut, the two freedom fighters, will be installed at village Murali Bharahawa and Murali panchayat will be protected from erosion being caused by Pandai river and the village will be provided mordern besic ameneties. Rajkumar Shukla’s farmland was located at Murali Bharahawa and henchmen of Amman, European manager of neighbouring Belawa Kothi, used to torture the peasants.
Nitish while addressing an impressive gatherings at Murali Bharahawa also announced that Hazarimal Dharmshala at Bettiah, where Mahatma Gandhi had stayed for a week to record plight of the champaran farmers with lawyer colleague Dr Rajendar Prasad and others, shall be developed as a memorial of the father of the nation and Champaran Satyagrah and an auditorium with capacity to accommodate one thousand persons shall be built at Bettiah.
