Saharsa : Five Saharsa jail staff including a Warder and four were injured when they tried to stop two groups of criminals from fighting with each other in jail on January 29. They were assaulted by an undertrial prisoner.

Warder Ashish Kumar Jha was admitted to Saharsa sadar hospital while the four injured constables are under treatment at jail hospital. Later on, a large number of police personnel reached the jail and brought the situation under control by using force.

Jha said the two groups of criminals fought with each other to establish their supremacy inside the jail. Jha said when he and the four constables intervened, an undertrial prisoner Sanjit Kumar Yadav abused and beat them up with stick after snatching the same from a constable. Jail superintendent Sanjiv Kumar said that the prisoners fought with each other when jail staff was taking their count. He said that the incident was under investigation.
