New Delhi : Coronavirus (COVID-19) patients getting cured/discharged jumped to 95,526 in India including 30,108 in Maharashtra, 13,170 in Tamilndu, 8,746 in Delhi, and 6,040 in Rajasthan at 8 am on June 2, 2020. This is an increase of 3,708 in the number of patients cured/discharged during last 24 hours.

he recovery rate in the country is progressively increasing and had reached 48.19% amongst COVID-19 patients on June 1, 2020. The recovery rate on May 18, 2020, was 38.29 %. On May 3, 2020, it was 26.59 %. On  April 15, 2020,  it was 11.42 %.

Coronavirus death toll, on the other hand, climbed to 5,598 in India, an increase of 204 new deaths during last 24 hours.  Maharashtra alone accounts for 2,362 deaths followed by 1,063 in Gujarat and 523 in Delhi. The Coronavirus death toll break-up is : Maharashtra (2,362), Gujarat (1,063), Delhi ( 523), Madhya Pradesh (358), West Bengal (325), UP (217), Rajasthan (198), Tamilnadu (184), Telengana ( 88), Andhra Pradesh (64), Karnataka ( 52), Punjab (45), J&K ( 31), Bihar (24), Haryana (21), Kerala (10), Odisha (7), Uttarakhand (6), Jharkhand (5), Himachal Pradesh (5), Assam (4), Chandigarh (4), Chhattisgarh (1), and Meghalaya (1).

The case fatality rate is 2.83%. On May 18, the case fatality rate was 3.15%. On May 3, it was 3.25 %. On April 15,  it was 3.30 %. A steady decline can be seen in the case fatality rate in the country. The relatively low death rate is attributed to the continued focus on surveillance, timely case identification and clinical management of the cases, according to a PIB release.

The testing capacity has increased in the country through 472 Government and 204 private laboratories (total 676 laboratories). Cumulatively, 38,37,207 samples have been tested so far for COVID-19, whereas, 1,00,180 samples were tested on May 31, 2020.

PM Narendra Modi while addressing the 25th Foundation Day of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bengaluru, via VC on June 1, 2020, said the World is facing one of the biggest crisis since the two World Wars. Like the world changed pre and post-World Wars, the same way the pre and post Covid world will be different, he said.

Modi said at the root of India’s brave fight against Covid-19 is the hard-work of the medical community and our Corona warriors. He likened the doctors and medical workers as soldiers but without the soldiers’ uniform.

The Prime Minister said the virus may be invisible enemy but our corona warriors are invincible and in the battle against the invisible vs invincible our med workers are sure to win. He expressed concern at violent incidents, owing to mob mentality, against the front-line workers and said several steps have been taken by the Government to curb them. He said that the Government also provided an insurance cover of Rs. 50 Lakh to those on the front-line.
