New Delhi : Nine persons died while 14 others are undergoing medical treatment for burn injuries in a fire at Bhilai Steel Plant in Chhattisgarh on October 9, 2018, morning.

According to a statement issued by the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL),  a fire broke out in gas pipeline of Coke Oven Battery Complex No. 11 of its Bhilai Steel Plant at around 10.30 am on October 9, 2018. The fire broke out during a scheduled maintenance job. Nine persons have lost their lives and 14 are undergoing medical treatment for burn injuries, it said. All resources have been mobilised to provide adequate care to the injured. SAIL is providing all the support to the families of the affected, it said, according to a PIB release.

Minister of State for Steel Vishnudeo Sai, Steel Secretary Binoy Kumar, and SAIL Chairman Saraswati Prasad along with other senior officers are rushing to Bhilai to take stock of the situation and stand by the bereaved families.
