Sasaram : Two dozen big and about 60 small rice mills under Bikramganj sub-division in Rohtas district have closed one after another during past few years rendering over 5,000 employees jobless.
Rice grown in this area is cherished almost everywhere in India including New Delhi. But due to state government’s failure to procure paddy at the fixed minimum support price and other technical problems, the rice mills have closed one by one. Now, neither the paddy procurement centres nor the millers are procuring the paddy from the farmers at minimum support price.
With the closure of rice mills, traders from outside the state are not coming to procure rice. They are now procuring rice from the middlemen at much lower prices and the farmers have no option than to sell the paddy to the middlemen at lower prices.. After closure of rice mills, the mill owners are shifting to different business causing a great loss to farmers and labourers as well. The people at Natwar, Dinara, Sanjhauli, Karakat, Ghosia, Chhitani under Bikramganj sub-division were fully depend on rice mills for rice.
Munna Rai, a rice mill owner, said that the future of rice mill is under cloud due to indifferent attitude of the state government, lack of government aid, and failure of the officials of the district administration to fix price for the custom milled rice.
Sanjay Rai, another rice mill owner, said that the condition of the rice millers were very good till about three years ago and farmers were also happy by selling their yield to the millers but the policy of the government towards the rice millers ruined them and the farmers.
Rajesh Kumar, SDO, Bikramganj, said that some rice millers were declared defaulters for not giving custom milled rice (CMR) on time and the district administration has recommended action against them. State Food Corporation (SFC), Sasaram, had entered into an agreement with the rice millers for the custom milling of paddy and paid to rice millers who delivered the CMR on time.

There is something reassuringly robust about The Punch Bowl Inn.
Not just in the old-fashioned bar, where the Wainwright Gold is well kept and a huge leather sofa sits before a blazing wood burner; or in the dining room, solid and comfortable,
with its old beams, well-trodden wooden floors and tables unadorned with cloths;
it’s in the menu, too, mainly British with a Gallic burr, that makes full use of the magnificent local Lake District larder.

We’re here with Peter Gott, that great Cumbrian hero, and the man behind
Sillfield Farm, who has invited me up to cook at the Westmorland County Show; also chef
Phil Vickery, who certainty knows his alliums; and the force of nature that is Lorraine
Stanton, something of a legend around these parts. But first dinner, and a sublime
twice-baked Mrs Kirkham’s cheese soufflé, the texture as light as a sigh,
the flavour profoundly, lasciviously rich. Mrs Kirkham’s,
now made by her son Graham, is one of the world’s great
cheeses, and this is a soufflé of quiet majesty. A mushroom soup is equally
splendid, managing to be both light and gutsy, while Stornoway black pudding with bubble and squeak and a deep-fried egg is pure Cumbrian comfort by way of
Lewis.
There’s a fundamental generosity here, matched by assured technical precision. Duck à l’orange sees a plump breast cooked rare,
the skin crisp, the sauce just the right side of bitter.
It comes with a fat potato fondant and cabbage spiked with shards of smoked bacon. I eat rump of lamb,
four vast just-pink slices, drenched in the stickiest, most gloriously intense of gravies; by its side, a
tiny shepherd’s pie, one bite of pure ovine brilliance.
Puddings are every bit as fine: a lemon tart,
beautifully sharp, with damson sorbet (this part of the Lake District is famed
for its damsons); along with a banana soufflé, this time the
classic version but ethereal, served with vanilla
ice cream and a pot of sticky-toffee sauce to pour
deep into its molten centre. This is good old-fashioned food, immaculately
done, in the sort of pub designed for lingering.
It’s getting late now, and we’ve an early start.
But first, another bottle of wine. Dinners like this are too rare to be rushed.

Sept 28 (Reuters) – Philip Morris International on Thursday said it would be
filing a premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) in the United
States for its IQOS ILUMA product in October.
The company at its investor day said that while the PMTA timeline remains “hard to predict”, it expects the launch of the ILUMA
heated tobacco units towards the second half of its three-year forecast period of 2024 to

recent meeting in Paris showed the future king towering over the
US president-elect.
Trump, 78, met the Prince of Wales, 42, at the residence of the British ambassador in Paris,
following the historic reopening of the Notre-Dame over the weekend.
Expert lip reader Jacqui Press analysed a clip of
their meeting on Saturday, telling MailOnline how the incoming US president referred to William as
‘a big man’ while posing for photographs together.
After exchanging a warm handshake with William, Trump – who was voted back to power after defeating
Kamala Harris last month – told the reporters ‘he’s a
big man, this one’.
William then asked Trump whether he had ‘warmed up after the cathedral’, after
they attended the ceremonial reopening of the Parisian landmark earlier in the day.
Trump confirmed he had, before adding: ‘I had a good time there.’
Ms Press also noted how Trump praised Prince William by telling reporters that
were present that he is ‘doing a fantastic job’.
Pictures showed William, who stands at a statuesque 6ft-3in or 191
cm, appeared much taller than Trump – despite the latter’s claims
he is the same height.

An NACC spokesperson confirmed the Commissioner, three deputy commissioners and CEO are
members of the Chairman’s lounge.
‘This does not impact the integrity of the Commission,’ the spokesman said.
‘Each of the statutory office holders has made appropriate
declarations in regards to Chairman’s lounge membership in the NACC Gifts and Benefits register.
‘Qantas is not a Commonwealth agency within the Commission’s jurisdiction.’

Applicants must ‘have experience working in a fine dining environment and the ability to
work a seven- day rotating roster.
The claims Albanese received 22 upgrades from economy when booking Qantas flight
by personally requesting them from Mr Joyce are made in a new book
The Chairman’s Lounge by former Australian Financial Review columnist Joe
Aston.
Aston alleged Mr Albanese directly contacted Mr Joyce while in his various parliamentary jobs, which included
Minister for Transport to ask for special upgrades that only the CEO could
dole out for himself or his family.
According to unnamed Qantas ‘insiders’ 11 of the 22 flights Mr Albanese received upgrades
for were ‘privately funded’ and included overseas trips
to Rome, London, Los Angeles and Honolulu.
The book also revealed that as well as son Nathan having a ‘plus one’
Chairman’s Lounge membership Mr Albanese’s partner Jodie Haydon did as well.
Mr Albanese insisted on Tuesday that all were ‘declared
in the appropriate way’.

Australians have discovered an unlikely pop-up store offering shoppers ‘incredible’ deals on clothing, homewares, food,

The temporary Vinnies locations have been set up around Victoria to help shoppers get through

Vinnies, or the St Vincent de Paul Society, is a charity
that works to provide support and assistance to people in need.
Most items are brand new stock donated by corporate partners including

Shoppers will find men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, shoes
from top brands, and even electrical goods at the Vinnies pop-up locations.
Many have purchased vacuums, air fryers, Adidas shoes, printers, and kitchen knives from previous pop-up shops.
There is presently a location in Ascot Vale which is open until 3 November, and another in Boronia which will remain open until Christmas –
or until stock runs out.

earrings from [American jewellery brand] Badgley Mischka,’ Beth told FEMAIL.
