New Delhi : India continues to post very high number of daily recoveries with 82,719 COVID-19 patients being declared cured/discharged during last 24 hours taking the tally to 40,25,079 at 8 am on September 17, 2020, exceeding the number of active cases (10,09,976) by huge margin of 30,15,103.

The COVID-19 death toll, on the other hand, jumped to 83,198 on September 17, 2020, with 1,132 new deaths being reported from different places across the country during last 24 hours including 474 from Maharashtra, 55 from Karnataka, 57 from Tamilnadu, 86 from Uttar Pradesh, 61 from West Bengal, 64 from Andhra Pradesh, 78 from Punjab, 33 from Delhi, 12 from Gujarat, 15 from Rajasthan, and 24 from Madhya Pradesh. The Case Fatality Rate was 1.63% in the country on September 17, 2020, 2020, according to Union Health Ministry figure. The toll has crossed hundred mark in Chandigarh.

Of the 51,18,253 COVID 1-9 cases reported till date in the country a total of 40,25,079 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate being 78.64%. The active cases are 19.73% of the total cases reported in the country so far. India has tested 6,05,65,728 COVID samples so far including 11,36,613 samples on September 16, 2020.

On September 16, 2020, a record 82,961 COVID-19 patients were declared cured. The country also reported 97,894 new COVID during last 24 hours taking the tally to 51,18,253.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on September 17, 2020, is : Maharashtra (30,883), Tamilnadu (8,559), Karnataka (7,536), Delhi (4,839), Andhra Pradesh (5,105), Uttar Pradesh (4,690), West Bengal (4,123), Gujarat (3,256), Madhya Pradesh (1,844), Rajasthan (1,279),  Punjab (2,592), Telengana (1,005), J&K (932), Haryana (1,045), Bihar (848), Odisha (656), Jharkhand (579), Assam (511), Uttarakhand (447), Kerala (480),  Chhattisgarh (611), Puducherry (418), Goa (319), Tripura (222), Chandigarh (104),  Andaman & Nicobar (52), Himachal Pradesh (91), Ladakh (46), Manipur (48), Nagaland (15), Meghalaya (29), Arunachal Pradesh (13), Sikkim (19), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2 ).
