Hajipur : Police seized 800 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from two places: Sarai and Mahnar in Vaishali district in North Bihar, late December 31, 2017, night, and in the wee hours on January 1, 2018, and arrested eight persons including notorious Awadhesh Rai allegedly involved in smuggling alcohol.
Police also seized Rs 7 lakh cash from the possession of Awadhesh Rai of Vaishali district, said Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar adding the liquor was smuggled from Haryana. The Vaishali SP said that the entire liquor consignment was sent to a single person but unloaded at Sarai and Mahnar. The SP said that police seized a truck, a Scorpiuo and an Alto car. With prohibition in force in the state, Bihar police and excise officials were on prowl of liquor smugglers in view of the new year celebrations.
The SP said that the liquor smugglers had formed a syndicate through which they were carrying out their business of selling liquor in Vaishali, Muzaffarpur, Saran and Samastipur districts.
