New Delhi : A total of 78,365 COID-19 patients were declared cured/discharged in India during last 24 hours taking the tally to 59,06,069 in the country at 8 am on October 9, 2020, exceeding the number of active cases (8,93,592) by a massive margin of 50,12,477. The country, on the other hand, also recorded 70,496 new cases during last 24 hours taking the tally to 69,06,151, The number of active cases (8,93,592) was  12.94% of the total COVID-19 cases (69,06,151) reported till date in the country.

Of the 69,06,151 COVID-19 cases reported till date in the country, altogether 59,06,069 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate being 85.52%. The country has tested 8,46,34,680 samples so far including 11,68,705 samples tested on October 8, 2020.

The COVID-19 toll increased to 1,06,490 on October 9, 2020, with 964 new deaths being reported in the country during last 24 hours including 358 from Maharashtra, 68 from Tamilnadu, 101 from Karnataka, 45 from Uttar Pradesh, 63 from West Bengal, 24 from Chhattisgarh, 42 from Andhra Pradesh, 37 from Delhi, 24 from Kerala, 20 from Haryana, 7 from Gujarat, 29 from Punjab, 29 from Madhya Pradesh, 15 from Rajasthan, and 16 from Odisha. The Case Fatality Rate was 1.54% in the country on October 9, 2020.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on October 9, 2020, is : Maharashtra (39,430), Tamilnadu (10,052), Karnataka (9,675), Delhi (5,653), Andhra Pradesh (6,128), Uttar Pradesh (6,245), West Bengal (5,439), Gujarat (3,538), Madhya Pradesh (2,547), Rajasthan (1,605),  Punjab (3,741), Telengana (1,208), J&K (1,291), Haryana (1,548), Bihar (929), Odisha (974), Jharkhand (775), Assam (794), Uttarakhand (702), Kerala (930),  Chhattisgarh (1,158), Puducherry (556), Goa (484), Tripura (311), Chandigarh (186),  Andaman & Nicobar (55), Himachal Pradesh (238), Ladakh (63), Manipur (83), Nagaland (17), Meghalaya (60), Arunachal Pradesh (22), Sikkim (51), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2 ).
