Sitamarhi: Eight persons including seven policemen died in a head on collision between a van carrying two prisoners from Bhagalpur to Sitamarhi at 3 pm on April 15, 2017. The Bhagalpur central jail’s van collided head on with a stonechips laden truck near village Gaighat Morsand on NH77 under Runnisaidpur police station in Sitamarhi district. The prisoners` van was carrying fourteen police persons including a driver and two naxalites.

In the accident an undertrial naxalite Hemant Kumar Paswan lost his life along with seven policemen including the driver Munna Singh. The escort party team members, who died on the spot, included constables Kuleshwar Chaudhary, Sanjay Kumar, Krishna Singh, Umesh Mishra, Chuman Singh and ASI Madan Sah.

Those who sustained serious injuries and have been admitted to SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, included constables Pawan Rai, Rajdev Ram, Pramod Singh, Surendra Paswan, Vipin Kumar, Awadhesh Singh, Shiv Shankar Rai and another undertrial naxalite Suhag Paswan. The jail vehicle was bound for Sitamarhi jail and subsequently to the district court to produce both the unde trial prisoners before a court.
Sitamarhi SP Hari Prasath S visited SKMCH, Muzaffarpur, to supervise the treatment of the injured. The bodies were also taken there for post-mortem.
