New Delhi : The alarming spike in Covid-19 cases continues in India as a  total of 62,714 new cases were recorded in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,19,71,624 cases in the country at 8 am on March 28, 2021. On the other hand, a total of 28,739 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,13,23,762 in the country on March 28, 2021.

The active cases (4,86,310) on March 28, 2021, accounted for 4.06% of the total Covid-19 cases ( 1,19,71,624) recorded so far in the country, an increase of 33,663 cases in last 24 hours in the country. Of the 1,19,71, 624 Covid-19 recorded so far in the country, altogether 1,13,23,762 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate (RR) further dropping to 94.59% in the country on March 28 from 94.85% on March 27, 2021.

India has tested 24,09,50, 842 samples so far including 11,81,289 samples on March 27, 2021. Meanwhile, a total of 6, 02,69,782 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19 so far in India including 21,54,170 beneficiaries on March 27, 2021, according to Union Health Ministry figure.

The Covid-19 toll climbed to 1,61,552 in India on March 28, 2021, with 312 new deaths, the highest in recent months,  being recorded in the country in last 24 hours including 166 in Maharashtra, 45 in Punjab, 14 in Kerala, 13 in Chhattisgarh, 10 in Delhi, 10 in Madhya Pradesh, 9 in Tamilnadu, 8 in Karnataka, 7 in Haryana, 5 in Gujarat, 4 in Uttar Pradesh, 4 in Jharkhand, 3 in Telengana,  2 in West Bengal, 2 in Bihar, and 1 in Uttarakhand. India had recorded 291 new deaths on March 27, 2021.

The Covid-19 toll in India on March 28, 2021, was : Maharashtra (54,073), Tamilnadu (12,659), Karnataka (12,492), Delhi (10,997), Andhra Pradesh (7,203), Uttar Pradesh (8,783), West Bengal (10,322), Gujarat (4,484), Madhya Pradesh (3,947), Rajasthan (2,811), Punjab (6,621), Telengana (1,688), J&K (1,985), Haryana (3,132), Bihar (1,571), Odisha (1,920), Jharkhand (1,107), Assam (1,104), Uttarakhand (1,709), Kerala (4,567), Chhattisgarh (4,061), Puducherry (680), Goa (824), Tripura (392), Chandigarh (374), Andaman & Nicobar (62), Himachal Pradesh (1,033), Ladakh (130), Manipur (374), Nagaland (92), Meghalaya (150), Arunachal Pradesh (56), Sikkim (135), Mizoram (11), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu (2), and Lakshadweep (1).
