New Delhi : The huge increase in the number of COVID-19 patients getting cured continues in India reaching 22,80,566 at 8 am on August 23,2020, an increase of 57,989 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number of active cases by 15,72,898. The number of active cases in the country was 7,07,668 on August 23. On August 22, 2020, a record 63,631 Covid patients were declared cured in India.

Altogether 4,80,114 patients have been declared cured in Maharashtra, 3,13,280 in Tamilnadu, 2,52,638 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,84,568 in Karnataka, 1,44,138 in Delhi, and 1,31,295 in UP till date.  A total of 3,52,92,220 COVID samples have been tested in the country till date in the country, according to Union Health Ministry.

The COVID death toll in the country, on the other hand, has jumped to 56,706 with 912 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country during last 24 hours including 297 from Maharashtra, 80 from Tamilnadu, 93 from Karnataka, 97 from Andhra Pradesh, 70 from UP, 48 from West Bengal, 45 from Punjab, 21 from MP, 14 from Gujarat, and 14 from Delhi.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on August 23, 2020, is : Maharashtra (21,995), Tamilnadu (6,420), Delhi (4,284), Karnataka (4,615), Gujarat (2,881), Andhra Pradesh (3,189), Uttar Pradesh (2,867), West Bengal (2,737), Madhya Pradesh (1,206), Rajasthan (944),  Punjab (1,036), Telengana (755), J&K (608), Haryana (597), Bihar (503), Odisha (399), Jharkhand (308), Assam (234), Uttarakhand (195), Kerala (218),  Chhattisgarh (189), Puducherry (151), Goa (140), Tripura (72), Chandigarh (33),  Andaman & Nicobar (32), Himachal Pradesh (29), Manipur (22), Ladakh (21), Nagaland (9), Meghalaya (7), Arunachal Pradesh (5), Sikkim (3), and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu ( 2).

As far Bihar figure goes, according to State Health Department, the COVID death toll was 601 in the state on August 22, 2020.
