New Delhi : The massive increase in the number of COVID patients getting cured continues in India reaching 19,19,842 at 8 am on August 17, 2020, an increase of 57,584 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number of active cases in the country by 12,42,942. The number of active cases in India stands at 6,76,900. A total of 4,17,123 COVID patients have been declared cured in Maharashtra till date, 2,78,270 in Tamilnadu, 2,01,234 in Andhra Pradesh, 1,41,491 in Karnataka, 1,37,561 in Delhi, and 1,00,432 in UP.

On the negative side, COVID death toll jumped to 50,921 in India on August 17, 2020, with 941 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country during last 24 hours including 288 from Maharashtra, 125 from Tamilnadu, 116 from Karnataka, 88 from Andhra Pradesh, 56 from UP, 51 from West Bengal, 41 from Punjab, 20 from Gujarat, and 8 from Delhi.

The COVID-19 death toll break-up in India on August 17, 2020, is : Maharashtra (20,037), Tamilnadu (5,766), Delhi (4,196), Karnataka (3,947), Gujarat (2,785), Andhra Pradesh (2,650), Uttar Pradesh (2,449), West Bengal (2,428), Madhya Pradesh (1,105), Rajasthan (876),  Punjab (812), Telengana (703), J&K (542), Haryana (538), Bihar (461), Odisha (343), Jharkhand (244), Assam (189), Uttarakhand (152), Kerala (156),  Chhattisgarh (141), Puducherry (110), Goa (104), Tripura (59), Chandigarh (29),  Andaman & Nicobar (28), Himachal Pradesh (19), Manipur (16), Ladakh (14), Nagaland (8), Meghalaya (6), Arunachal Pradesh (5), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu( 2), and Sikkim (1). The death toll crossed hundred mark in Goa on August 17, 2020.

As far Bihar figure goes, according to State Health Department, the COVID death toll had reached 537 in the state on August 16, 2020.
