Saharsa : Tension prevails on Saharsa jail campus following denial of parole to an inmate Raghuni Sharma after death of his son, non-payment of remuneration to the prisoners for the last 11 months, sub-standard quality of food and cut in ration quota.

About 550 jail inmates led by former MP Anand Mohan on July 31, 2017,  started a peaceful agitation to protest the functioning of the jail officials. They refused to perform works assigned to them, refused to take food and boycotted their production before the court. In a letter addressed to the chief minister, the jail inmates have demanded a joint probe by Saharsa DM, District and Sessions Judge,Saharsa, and Superintendent Purnia Central Jail into Saharsa jail affairs.
