New Delhi : The exponential increase in the number of COVID-19 patients getting cured continues in India reaching 14,80,884 at 8 am on August 9, 2020, a record increase of 53,879 during last 24 hours, exceeding the number active cases by 8,52,137. The number of active cases stands at 6,28,747 as on August 9, 2020.

On the negative side, COVID death toll has surged to 43,379 in India with 861 new deaths being reported from different parts of the country including 275 from Maharashtra, 118 from Tamilnadu, 97 from Andhra Pradesh, 93 from Karnataka, 51 from West Bengal, 47 from Uttar Pradesh (U), 23 from Gujarat, and 16 from Delhi, according to Union Health Ministry sources.

The Coronavirus death toll break-up in India on August 9, 2020, is : Maharashtra (17,367),Tamilnadu (4,808), Delhi (4,098), Karnataka (3,091), Gujarat (2,628), Uttar Pradesh (2,028), West Bengal (2,005), Andhra Pradesh (1,939), Madhya Pradesh (977), Rajasthan (778), Telengana (627), Punjab (562), Haryana (474), J&K (459), Bihar (382), Odisha (259), Jharkhand (155), Assam (140), Uttarakhand (117), Kerala (106),  Chhattisgarh (89), Puducherry (80), Goa (72), Tripura (41), Chandigarh (24),  Andaman & Nicobar (20), Himachal Pradesh (14), Manipur (11), Ladakh (9), Nagaland (7), Meghalaya (6), Arunachal Pradesh (3), Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu( 2), and Sikkim (1). As far Bihar figure goes, according to the State Government, the COVID death toll had reached 419 in the state on August 8, 2020.
