Saharsa : Altogether 53,000 flood hit families in Saharsa district have not yet received relief materials including foodgrains due to late inclusion of the district among the flood hit districts of Bihar.
The flood had hit 80,000 families in Saharsa and claimed 8 human lives. Saharsa DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal while addressing a presser on August 30, 2017, at his official chamber, said that 3.35 lakh people of 54 panchayats were affected by the flood. Soon after the flood, the district administration had opened 17 relief camps and 11 health camps, he said.
The DM said that since the state government declared Saharsa as a flood hit district later, the relief distribution work was slightly delayed in the district. Each flood hit family will get one relief packet containing foodgrains and other materials. So far 26,980 relief packets had been distributed, the DM added. The distribution of relief packets will continue till September 2.
Saharsa district is, however, yet to get adequate quantity of rice. The flood hit families are yet to get Rs 6,000 each. The amount would be deposited into the bank accounts of all the 80,000 flood hit families. The DM said that the flood had destroyed the standing crops besides damaging several roads. ADM Dhirendra Kumar Jha, District Relief Incharge Ranjit Kumar andDistrict Public Relation Officer Jai Shankar Kumar were also present at the press conference.
