Madhubani: Over 40 persons were feared dead when a bus carrying them fell into a 25 feet deep pond at village Basaitha under Benipatti police station in Madhubani district on Monday noon.
The bus was going to Sitamarhi from Madhubani carrying around 55 passengers. Four bodies were fished ot till the time of reporting. The place of occurrence is about 180 km from Patna, the state capital. Sources said that the bus fell into the pond after the driver lost control over the vehicle.
A crane from Darbhanga had left for Basaitha to take the submerged bus out of the pond. A government official said that four persons were taken out from the bus andwere admitted to hospital. Angry over the accident,an irate crowd pelted policemen with stones when they reached the spots. The locals alleged police reached the place of occurrence very late.
