Ara : Indefinite strike by the non-teaching employees of 16 of 17 constituent colleges under Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, was called off on October 24, 2018, late evening, after the university administration conceded their 12 point demands. The employees joined duty in their respective college on October 25.

Under the banner of VKSU Non-Teaching Employees Association (VKSUNTEA), hundreds of non-teaching employees of 16 of 17 constituent colleges under the university were on an indefinite strike since September 4, 2018, to press their 12 point demands and the strike was called after 50 days after the VKSUNTEA reached an amicable agreement on their 12 point demands with the officials of the VKSU on October 25 evening, said zonal president, VKSUNTEA, Chitranjan Singh.

Chitranajan Singh said that the officials had tried to get the strike called off by making hollow promise and at least five rounds of talks had taken place but in vain. On October 24, the officials of the VKSU led by Vice-Chancellor, Nand Kishor Sah, and a delegation of VKSUNREA had a marathon meeting and all the hurdles on way to agreement were removed and the university authorities conceded all the demands. He said that the VKSU administration would publish notification in this regard very soon. He said that their main demands included payment of salary on time, implemention of all the provisions agreed with the delegations of the employees earlier, appointment on compassionate ground, and promotions.

Vice-Chancellor, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah said that teaching and other officials works in colleges and university were adversely affected due to the strike. He said admission for Intermediate session 2018-2020 and Graduation session 2018-2021 will commence from November 1, 2018, in all the colleges under the university and added that Chairman, Bihar School Examination Board, has approved of it. He stated that examination forms for the Intermediate session 2017-2019 will be filled up from October 27 to October 31, 2018.

The VC said that a notification has been published for the 60% payment of Rs 61.5 crore received from the government and adjustment of strike period. He said the VKSU will release the salary of the employees by 25th of every month.
