5 killed in mortal shelling at Balakot, J&K

New Delhi : In an incident of indiscriminate mortar shelling at Balakot near Gursai, Thesil Mendhar, in Dist Poonch district, J&K, on March 18, 2018, morning, seven people were injured, of which five succumbed to their injuries. The two survivors were evecuted to Jammu by helicopter.

The crew of the helicopter belonging to 132 FAC flight, Flight Lieutenant Mittal and Flying Officer Akash quickly swung into action and landed at rajouri at 12 noon. They were airborne with Maurin, 7, and Nourin, 10, within the next two minutes. They landed at Jammu at 12.39 pm whereon the casualties were shifted to the Civil Hospital. The two sisters were escorted by their uncle Inzamam, according to a PIB release.
