New Delhi :  The surge in daily new Covid-19 cases continues in India at an alarming rate. A total of 40.953 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country in last 24 hours. It is highest single spike in daily new cases in last 112 days in India taking the tally to 1,15,55,284 cases at 8 am on March 20, 2021. On the other hand, a total of 23,653 Covid-19 patients were declared cured / discharged in India in last 24 hours taking the tally to 1,11,07,332 in the country on March 20, 2021.

The active cases (2,88,394) on March 20, 2021, accounted for 2.5% of the total Covid-19 cases (1,15,55,284) on March 20, 2021, an increase of 17, 112 cases in last 24 hours. Of the 1,15,55,284 Covid -19 cases recorded so far in India, altogether 1,11,07,332 patients have been declared cured with the recovery rate being 96.16% on March 20, 2021. India has tested 23,24,31,517 samples so far including 10,60,971 samples on March 19, 2021. Meanwhile, 4,20,63,392 persons have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in India so far including 27,23,575 beneficiaries on March 19, 2021.

The Covid-19 toll jumped to 1,59,558 in India on March 20, 2021, with 188 new deaths being recorded in gthe country in last 24 hours including 70 in Maharashtra, 38 in Punjab, 17 in Kerala, 10 in Karnataka, 9 in Tamilnadu, 9 in Chhattisgarh, 7 in Madhya Pradesh, 4 in Delhi, 4 in Gujarat, 4 in Uttar Pradesh, 3 in Himachal Pradesh, 2 in Rajasthan, 1 in Haryana, 1 in West Bengal, 1 in Andhra Pradesh, 1 in Jharkhand, and 1 in Bihar. India had recorded 154 new deaths on March 19, 2021. The case fatality rate dropped to 1.38% in India on March 20, 2021.
