4 persons arrested for thrashing teenage girl at Bagaha village

Bagaha : Police have arrested four persons of village Kataiya for thrashing a girl Shila Kumari, 18, at Kataiya under Naurangia police station in Bagaha Police District on May 3, 2018, for meeting her friend Radhika Kumari of the same village despite having a dispute with her recently. Both are Intermediate students at High School, Harnatand, under Bagaha-2 block. Shila Kumari is daughter of Motilal Mahto while Radhika Kumari is daughter of Sheo Mahto of Tharu dominated village Kataiya.

The relationship between Shila Kumari and Radhika Kumari got strained when the former allegedly posted an obscene photograph of the later on WhatsApp. An angry Tharu village panchayat samiti Gumasta called a meeting about a month before and asked Shila Kumari and her mother to clean doors of the villagers daily. Shila was als0 asked to never meet Radhika Kumari. But, Shila Kumari was found visting Radhika Kumari’s house to meet her. This further angered the villagers. The villagers including women tied Shila Kumari to a pole on May 3, 2018, and thrashed her. A video showing the incident went viral on May 4 late evening.

Naurangia police swung into action on the direction of Bagaha SP Arbind kumar Gupta. SDPO, Bagaha ,Sanjiv Kumar, was asked to inquire into the incident. SHO, Naurangia police station, Harendra Prasad, brought the injured girl over to Government Hospital, Bagaha, for treatment.

An FIR was also lodged with Naurangia police station in this connection and police arrested four persons : Hansraj Kumar, 27, Kamal Kumar,22, Saddan Kumar, 28, and Meghnath Kumar, 23, on the statement of Shila Kumari. Police are searching for other persons involved in beating her, the SP said.
