31 from Bihar killed in Kanpur rail tragedy, 16 were from Patna dist

Patna: The death toll in November 20 Kanpur rail tragedy rose to 145 on November 21. This included 31 passengers from Bihar. They were from ten different districts of the state, but 16 of them were from Patna district. According to an official statement from Disaster management department here, more bodies may be recovered as NDRF was still engaged in finding bodies from the mangled coaches. Most of the passengers had gone to Ujjain and Shirdi for pilgrimage.

Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, BJP MP from Buxar who visited the accident site on November 21 condoled the death of residents from Bihar and said the ex-gratia sanctioned by the Prime Minister has been despatched to different district magistrates for distribution among the families of the deceased. Money has reached the DMs concerned, he said. A woman doctor from Buxar too was among those killed in the mishap.
