Motihari ;  The surging flood water of Gandak has entered the Godown of State Food Corporation (SFC)  at Kesariya in East
Champaran District in North Bihar destroying at least 300 quintals of foodgrains mostly wheat. It was noticed on  August 1, 2020, by

River Gandak, after breaching its  left embankment at Bhawanipur under  Sangampur  Block  on July 24, 2020, inundated  the low lying areas under Kesariya  Nagar Panchayat and market including  SFC Godown  on July 25. But  due tolapse on the part of SFC employees,  the senior officials  could not be informed  in time.

Manoj Kumar, District Manager, SFC, talking to this reporter said that he was informed about water entering the godown only on August 1, 2020, and after inspection  started retrieving the foodgrains bags by pressing into service labourers. Six hundred quintals of rice and wheat were stocked at this godown and District Manager, SFC, Manoj Kumar, suspects  half of the stock of grains have been destroyed. The bags of grains  are being taken out from godown on boats.

Arun kumar Singh, Assistant  Supply Officer, Chakiya Sub-Division, said that he had informed the SFC District Manager about water entering the godown. Around 150 bags of wheat were destroyed  in the water, he added. DM, East Champaran, has been informed about  the lapse on the part of SFC officials and he has reportedly taken serious note of it.

Manoj Kumar, District Manager, SFC, said that he has issued a show cause to Assistant Godown Manager, SFC,
Kesariya, in this connection.  He said that the grains should not have been stocked  in that godown as it is located in low lying
area facing the fury of flood everyyear.
