Bettiah: Railways Judicial Magistrate, Bettiah, Shriram Jha, on February 16, 2018, sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each three Government Railway policemen for robbing some paasengers of Jan Nayak Express of their belongings on August 27, 2012, while on escort duty on the train. They are : Navin Kumar, a resident of Majhaul Police station,  Cheriabriarpur, in Begusarai district, Uday Narain Singh of village Bogia under Daudpur police station in Saran district, and Uday Prasad Chaudhary of village Gathiya under Narainapur police station in Munger district.

According to prosecution, the three cops robbed some  passengers of Jana Nayak Express of their belongings while on train escort duty on August 27, 2012. One of the passengers of the train Brajesh Parit of village Hichhopal under Sathi police station in West Champaran district, had lodged a robbery case with Narakatiaganj railway police station. Another victim Aazad Hussain of Beldari under Bettiah muffasil police station was an eye witness besides others.

Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Balkrishna Dubey, who appeared on behalf of prosecution, said that the three convicted constables had earlier been dismissed by the then railway SP, Muzaffarpur, after a departmental inquiry found them guilty. After speedy trial of the case, the three cops were convicted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
