Patna: A population of 21.99 lakh is reeling under flood in ten districts of Bihar. So far 26 persons have died in the flood including eight in Supaul, seven in Purnia and five in Kishanganj districts. The flood affected districts are: Purnia, Kishanganj, Araria, Darbhanga, Madhepura, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Saharsa, Supaul and Gopalganj. The number of flood affected villages is 1,789. The rivers in spate include Mahananda, Bakhra, Kankai, Parman and Kosi.

According to official sources, river Bagmati is flowing above the danger mark at Benibad ( Muzaffarpur), Adhwara Group of rivers at Kamtoul ( Darbhanga), Kosi at Baltara ( Khagaria) and Kursela ( Kaitihar), and Mahananda at Dhengraghat ( Purnia) and Jhava ( Katihar).  The state government is ru nning 369 relief camps in the flood affected areas. Altogether 2,05,729 people have taken shelter at these camps. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar had made an aerial survey of flood affected areas on July 28.
