Ara : An AIDS awareness rally was taken out to mark the World AIDS Day on December 1, 2016, at Ara. Hundreds of trainee nurses, Asha workers, Aaganwadi Sevikas and Sahayikas took out a procession from Ara Sadar Hospital that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town and culminated on the campus of Ara Sadar Hospital. A seminar on ‘AIDS and Precaution’ was also organized on the campus of ANM school at Ara Sadar Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Civil Surgeon, Dr Ras Bihari Singh said that 256 cases of HIV/AIDS  were detected in last three years in Bhojpur district. Quoting Bihar State AIDS Control Unit, the CS said that over 29,400 male and female were examined in last three years and 256 persons including 126 female were identified as  HIV/AIDS patients.

The CS said that counselling of over 30,500 persons was done in the last three years and they were persuaded to undergo HIV  test. He said 11 pregnant women were also identified as HIV positive and added that the pregnant women who come to Ara Sadar Hospital for delivery, are tested for HIV for the safety of mother and child. He said AIDS patients are found more in rural areas than urban as rural people are still unaware of AIDS.
